With unsteady steps, the comedian faced the daunting stage and the piercing gaze of the crowd, its judgmental eyes seeming to weigh down upon him. Despite his nerves, he took a deep breath and plunged forward with his performance, each joke a brave offering to the fickle audience.
He hoped that their laughter would be his validation, that it would prove him worthy in their eyes and finally earn their acceptance. But the fear lingered that he may never measure up, that he may always be found wanting in the eyes of the crowd.
